RACE DEBRIEF

Max Verstappen ensured he clocked the fastest time in both qualifying sessions at Spa-Francorchamps with another scintillating display during the Sprint Shootout.

After setting the pace in qualifying for Sunday’s main Grand Prix, which will become sixth due to a gearbox penalty, Verstappen did the double with a time of 1m 49.056s at the end of another wet-dry session.

While Verstappen again reigned supreme, the margin to P2 was this time much closer than on Friday, with McLaren rival Oscar Piastri just 0.011s back after a stunning lap of his own.

Elsewhere, there was an SQ2 crash for Lance Stroll when his gamble to swap intermediate tyres for slicks backfired, and Logan Sargeant also fell at the second hurdle following a wild spin.
